Improved Clinch Knot

⭐ Best All-Around Strength: 95% Difficulty: Easy

Use for: Tying lures, hooks, swivels to mono

Compatible: Rods #1, #2, #3, #4

STEPS:

  1. 1. Thread 6" of line through lure eye
  2. 2. Hold tag and main, make 5-7 wraps
  3. 3. Thread tag through small loop near eye
  4. 4. Thread tag through big loop created
  5. 5. WET THE KNOT with saliva
  6. 6. Pull main and tag simultaneously
  7. 7. Trim tag to 1/8"
💡 Pro Tip: ALWAYS wet mono before tightening. More wraps (7) for light line, fewer (5) for heavy.

Palomar Knot

⭐⭐ Strongest for Mono Strength: ~100% Difficulty: Easy

Use for: Maximum strength connections to hooks/jigs

Compatible: Rod #4 (finesse)

STEPS:

  1. 1. Double 6" of line through hook eye
  2. 2. Tie simple overhand knot (don't tighten)
  3. 3. Pass hook through the loop
  4. 4. WET the knot
  5. 5. Pull tag and main line simultaneously
  6. 6. Trim excess
💡 Pro Tip: Best for larger hook eyes (won't fit tiny panfish hooks). Perfect for jig heads and EWG hooks.

Non-Slip Loop Knot

Lure Movement Strength: 90% Difficulty: Moderate

Use for: Crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwater — anything needing free movement

Compatible: Rod #4, #5

STEPS:

  1. 1. Make overhand knot 6" from end
  2. 2. Thread tag through lure eye
  3. 3. Thread tag back through overhand knot
  4. 4. 4-5 wraps around main line
  5. 5. Thread tag back through overhand knot (reverse)
  6. 6. WET and tighten
  7. 7. Leave 1/4" loop at lure eye

Uni Knot

Versatile Strength: 90-95% Difficulty: Easy

Use for: Alternative to Improved Clinch, easier for cold fingers

Compatible: All mono rods

STEPS:

  1. 1. Thread line through eye, double back 6"
  2. 2. Make loop alongside main line
  3. 3. Wrap 6x through loop around both lines
  4. 4. WET and pull tag to snug wraps
  5. 5. Slide knot to hook eye
  6. 6. Pull main line tight
  7. 7. Trim
💡 Pro Tip: Good backup knot when hands are cold or wet. Works on everything.

Braided Line Knots (Rods #5-6)

For your 15 lb and 30 lb moss-green braided line

Palomar Knot (Braid)

⭐⭐⭐ Best for Braid Strength: 100% Difficulty: Easy

Use for: All braid-to-hook/lure/jig connections

Compatible: Rods #5, #6

STEPS:

  1. 1. Double line through hook eye
  2. 2. Overhand knot, don't tighten
  3. 3. Pass hook through loop
  4. 4. WET thoroughly
  5. 5. Pull TIGHT (braid won't break from pressure)
  6. 6. Trim
💡 Pro Tip: Use 5-6 wraps. Check knot after every fish — braid can slip. Pull HARD when tightening.

Double Uni Knot

⭐⭐⭐ CRITICAL Strength: 90% Difficulty: Moderate

Use for: Connecting braid to mono/fluoro leader

Compatible: Rod #5 (15lb braid + 10-12lb mono leader), Rod #6 (30lb braid + 15-20lb mono leader)

STEPS:

  1. 1. Overlap braid and mono by 10"
  2. 2. With braid: loop, wrap 4x around both, tighten
  3. 3. With mono: loop, wrap 4x around both, tighten
  4. 4. WET both knots
  5. 5. Pull main lines — knots slide together
  6. 6. Trim both tags close
💡 Pro Tip: Braid needs 4 wraps minimum. Mono needs 3-4. Pull HARD when joining — won't slip once tight.

Alberto Knot

Slimmer Connection Strength: 95% Difficulty: Hard

Use for: When Double Uni is too bulky; tournament-level leader

Compatible: Rod #5 for long casts

STEPS:

  1. 1. Form loop with mono leader end
  2. 2. Thread braid through loop (10")
  3. 3. Wrap braid 7x away from loop
  4. 4. Reverse, wrap 7x back toward loop
  5. 5. Thread braid back through loop (same entry)
  6. 6. WET, pull mono leader to tighten wraps
  7. 7. Pull braid main line, trim
💡 Pro Tip: Casts through guides better than Double Uni. Use for finesse presentations where bulk matters.

Improved Clinch (Braid Version)

Direct Braid (No Leader) Strength: 85% Difficulty: Easy

Use for: Dirty water where bass can't see green braid

Compatible: Rod #5, #6 in dirty water

STEPS:

  1. 1. Thread braid through eye, 10" doubled
  2. 2. 7-10 wraps (not 5 — braid is slippery)
  3. 3. Thread through small loop, then big loop
  4. 4. WET thoroughly
  5. 5. Pull VERY tight
  6. 6. Check after every fish
💡 Pro Tip: Only use in stained/muddy water or for catfish. In clear water, use a leader for invisibility.

Rod #5 (15lb Green Braid)

Leader: 3-4 ft of 10-12 lb clear mono
Knot: Double Uni
✅ Use: Clear water, smallmouth/walleye ❌ Skip leader: Muddy water, heavy cover, catfish

Rod #6 (30lb Green Braid)

Leader: 2-3 ft of 15-20 lb clear mono
Knot: Double Uni
✅ Use: Bass in clear water, pike ❌ Skip leader: Thick timber, heavy grass, catfish

🏆 Practice Routine (Before Hitting the Water)

1. Tie 10 Improved Clinch knots (mono)

2. Tie 10 Palomar knots (both mono and braid)

3. Tie 5 Double Uni knots (braid to mono) ← Most Critical!

4. Test each knot: tie to door handle, pull until line breaks. Knot should NOT fail first.

Your most important skills: Palomar (everything) and Double Uni (braid to leader). Master these two, you're 90% there.
